Chalkboard Hope

There are so many things I love about this picture. This past Sunday was my last day as the Sunday coordinator at our church. I walked in the coordinator office to start the day, and this precious gift was waiting for me from a sweet friend.  I was determined to choke back the tears and get ready for the many volunteers and kiddos who were about to come through the doors. Of course, the floodgates opened the moment I got back into my car several hours later to head home! I’m talking ugly crying here, folks.

So, back to what I was saying…Here’s what I love about this picture. 1) The teal vintage pitcher 2) The vintage yarn {swoon} 3) The adorable card with the plantable hearts. Yep, I just said plantable hearts. While I love everything about this gift, the hearts have to be my favorite! You see, there are seeds made into the paper. How stinkin’ cute is that?! Now, when the seeds to start to sprout and bloom into beautiful flowers, I’ll think about my sweet friend, Angela. 🙂

Speaking of Angela, you need to check out her etsy shop, Chalkboard Hope, where you can find these sweet hearts along with several other handmade items.

Pom Pom Rug

In an effort to reduce and organize my yarn stash, I’ve been trying to think of ways to use my leftovers instead of throwing them out. I’m currently working on a yo-yo throw, but I’m only using a certain type of yarn for that project. What do I do with all the rest? Then I came across the pom pom rug. They are so stinkin’ cute! Here are some I found in my searches…

And here is my version of the pom pom rug. It seemed like it was going to be somewhat bigger until I started stitching it together. I strung the poms onto long strands of yarn, then I formed them into a circle and stitched them together.

I wrapped the yarn around my fingers 40-60 times depending on the thickness of the yarn.

The completed rug...for now.

I can't wait to add more to it and make it larger!

This project was completed over the course of three days. You definitely need time to sit and work on it. I thought my yarn stash would go farther than this, but it makes for a nice reading cushion. However, I do plan to add more and make it a larger rug. It’s so squishy and soft!

Handmade Blessings

So this is my first link up since starting my new blog! Yay! Among the things I love are handmade items. If you don’t love handmade, then I’m not sure we can be friends…seriously. 😉 A sweet gift from a friend sparked the idea for this post, and I just had to share some of my favorite handmade gifts. Ok, so two of them are from my son!

Here’s a Mother’s Day gift from last year…totally made me tear up!

And here’s the one from this year. Super cute!

This next handmade gift takes a little explaining…On April 2nd of last year, we found out we were expecting our second baby. On April 9th, we lost that baby. I was completely heartbroken, and I never knew that I would grieve so hard for a little life that I had carried for a short amount of time. I know that the Lord knows best and understands beyond what we can comprehend here on this earth. I would lie in bed some nights asking God to hold me and thinking about my little one in His arms. Every time I closed my eyes, I could see this beautiful little girl smiling back at me. I knew in my heart, that we had lost a baby girl. It wasn’t until a few weeks ago that my husband and I gave her the name Sara Lillian, and I shared that with a few close friends. One of those dear, sweet friends over at Life, Crafts & Whatever was there, and she made one of the most precious handmade gifts I’ve ever received….

Of course I’ll always think of my precious girl, but it’s so sweet to have this little reminder sitting on our desk with family photos. I tear up every time I see it. So, for those of you who give handmade gifts…keep on giving! They’re more of a blessing than you know!
